Review : great for linux video encoding, live streaming
This is a fantastic buy if you have a need to encode and/or stream live SDI video on a linux platform. Blackmagic has drivers available for linux (I use their drivers under Fedora). Their developer community is about 99% Windows, but if you're resourceful, you can build apps under linux that use their drivers. All in all, you can put a couple of these in a rackmount machine for a total cost of around $1200-1300 with a good Intel Core i7 processor, and you can easily take in two simultaneous video sources, encoding to 4 files/streams each. Amazing!
I have had some stability issues with a similar product, the DeckLink Studio 2, which includes all the analog-to-digital conversion circuitry. That makes the card bigger and hotter, and I suspect that has something to do with the stability problems. So I'm really hoping for better stability with the DeckLink SDI.
